happiness is homemade.
Think about your day without a plan. Here's how it might go:
Hit the snooze button 4 times. Skip Spinning class. Forget to brush your teeth and put on mascara. Rush to work. Grab a muffin and a large coffee in the office kitchen. Realize you are wearing two different flats. Grab a handful of M&M's from the office candy jar as a convenient lunch, while you prepare for a last-minute presentation. Then to top the day off, you just realized you forgot to pack a sports bra for the evening yoga class... which may have helped you de-stress from the crazy day- Ergo, a generous pour of red wine.
OK, I may have gone a tad overboard, but I'm sure you have experienced one or more of the above? I know I have. Needless to say, when you don't make a plan things gets out of whack, and you have a sugar crash. Some days, bad days just happen, but you have the control to plan most of how your day will go if you key into your health a little bit more. Here's how:
ONE: You are stronger than your bad habits. If the only time you can workout is in the morning, then stop hitting the snooze button! Get up and get going. Otherwise, change your workout time to an hour you will stick to. Lunch hour? After work? Seriously, how bad do you want to make a change to your health? Tip: Put your alarm clock far far away from you. You'll despise me for this, but it works. ;) Also, read Get To Business.
TWO: Think about your next meal as you're eating your current meal. -Bet you didn't see this coming. What I REALLY mean is, think about what you're going to eat the next day for breakfast, lunch or both. If you consciously put together meals to take to work, you'll save time, eat a more nutritious lunch than a handful of M&M's, save money and have two less things to think about. While you're at it, fill up your water-bottle the night before and add it to your lunchbox too. It's recommended to drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water throughout the day, so you might as well get a head start.
TWO POINT FIVE: make this yummy Breakfast Casserole that will prepare you for a week of breakfast. It's simple, healthy and delicious, and will keep your body and brain on power mode throughout the morning.
Here's to a good morning, a good day and many happy bellies!
