happiness is homemade.
I missed posting this on December 13th- Didn't you know that was National Cocoa Day? I celebrate it a few times a week. ;)
There are so many fun facts about the cocoa plant, like the fact that it's a plant! History of Cocoa travels all the way back to 600AD, when the Maya Indians first discovered it. But let’s get to the good stuff...
Today, cocoa is known as Hersey, Godiva, Mars, Nestle, Ghirardelli, Cadbury, Dove, Lindt, Toblerone and the list goes on! The brands of Chocolate that exist in this world are never ending. At some point in your life or many points, I guarantee you've had a Hershey kiss or a "small" handful of Reese's Pieces, but have you ever tried cocoa by itself? It's sharp, dry, unsavory and can leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
So, the world decided to take cocoa and mask its bitter taste with cow milk, loads of sugar, soy, pounds of butter or other substances to create a tasty chocolate bar. Unfortunately though, these additions to cocoa created the "chocolate addiction". I'm sure you've heard the term "Chocoholic" before?
Luckily, cocoa has many health benefits, and it’s not what's causing your uncontrollable craving when the Ferrero Rocher commercial comes on. It's what was added to cocoa that messed with your brain... and your belly.
How’s that for some food for thought?
Don’t worry! I did some mixing in the kitchen and came up with a very palatable, rich and creamy chocolate concoction that compliments all the benefits of cocoa. It also keeps your belly happy and fit, takes less than 10 minutes to make and only has three plant based ingredients in it. Not convinced? Here is a really cute video of my niece, Adele, enjoying this yummy treat!
